F.S.T material for railroad interior
Case Study No.6 2021.04.26Development History
In the past, plastic or iron products made up the majority of railroad chairs worldwide. In Korea, since the Daegu subway fire disaster in 2003, regulations on fires have been strengthened, and steel chairs that do not burn are applied. To solve this problem, a cover was applied, but additional hygiene issues have arisen, and the current trend is to replace the interior material for railroad interiors with plastic. Plastics applied as materials for interior interiors of railways require more fire characteristics than general plastics. Research on plastics that satisfy the strict fire regulations that do not have the toxicity of the generated smoke is actively being conducted, with the characteristics of low heat release rate to prevent the risk of fire spread, reducing the generation of smoke that is the most fatal to people in case of fire.
